RVS CULTURE CLUB TOMORROW At NoonAre you interested in sharing and learning about the 7 Sacred Teachings? We will be doing a sharing circle where each person will have the opportunity to share a time when they saw courage or were courageous themselves. Loom bracelet club was well attended!Thank you to all the amazing leaders in our K-6 area who helped support loom bracelet club. It was great to see older students helping younger students to to make simple to complex loom bracelets. Remembrance day ServicemWith the help of students, staff, and community...the Remembrance Day Service was very well done. It was wonderful to see singing from the Grade K-6 classes, as well as, special touches like the Peace75 Art installation by Mrs.O'Hare's classes. Thank you to Kasen Mateychuk and Hayden Kutchma for being the Masters of Ceremonies. RVS Staff RetirementWe said goodbye to a longtime staff member, Joyce Mankewich this week. Joyce enjoyed 25 years at RVS and she is moving on to life's next adventure! Joyce worked in many different areas in the K-12 during her time at RVS. We wish her a relaxing retirement. We were asked to highlight some of the work we do as a school for the symposium. New roots of empathy baby for grade 7/8Tomorrow will be an exciting day for RVS Grade 7/8 students as they meet our new Roots of Empathy baby, Rylee Penner! Roots of Empathy is a program that teaches students empathy and caring through learning about the developmental stages of a baby. Walk-ins welcome as well. inspiring professional developmentOn Friday, October 20th, I had the pleasure of listening to Mitch Bourbonniere speak about his experience in supporting at risk individuals through action therapy and land based learning. Mitch told a story of hope through his work in the education system and through creating the Bear Clan Patrol for Missing Persons'. Mitch's message was inspiring and spoke out about how kindness is medicine. Mitch has received two Canadian governor general awards and the order of Manitoba for his work. As cooler weather is quickly approaching, please make sure your K-8 children have appropriate outdoor gear for recess and outdoor education. Classes will be called down one class at a time to get their picture taken. Picture packages will be available for purchase and will be sent home once photos come back. RVS Fall Ball Recap
A wonderful evening of smiles, awards and desserts happened last week in the RVS Gym. Many students were in attendance to receive subject awards, vocational awards, and a few other awards like the 1972 Award and Raider Citizenship awards. Special thanks to Ms.O'Hare, Mr.Mirza, Mrs.Fisher, and Mrs.Cote for organizing and getting ready for the night. Hopefully this will become a yearly tradition where students are recognized for the gifts they bring to our school. If you were not able to attend, please check in with Ms.O'Hare for any awards you may have received. Great People Make Great Schools!

We have many students who are helping out in different ways around the school. Special thanks to Kayleigh Gross, Paloma Lopez-Rawdon, Chantelle Andrews, Alexa French, and Alley Rodewald who have agreed to help out in the office for Mrs.French and Mrs.Neumann over lunch. Another shout out to Robert Graham who is helping out in the K-2 classroom. And lastly, Kennard Egachie and Fabianna Kelly for helping our Community Connector, Mrs.Fisher, with set up and help at events.

Manitoba Post Secondary Cooperative upcoming visits
Please know that we will have the Manitoba Post Secondary Cooperative visiting Roseau Valley School coming up on October 10th. The Post Secondary Cooperative showcases several post-secondary institutions that highlight their programs. Students will be asked to select two institutions to listen to that day. Watch out for information coming out this week about this event. All 9-12 students will be participating and asked to pre-select two post-secondary institutions to visit at RVS. More information to follow.
In the community: National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
A walk for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation happened on Saturday, September 30th. The walk left from RVS and ended at the Residential School Monument at Roseau River Anishinaabe First Nation. Many community members joined in on the walk and free lunch at RRAFN. It was a day to hold space, honor the truth, reflect, and listen as we acknowledge where we have been, where we are now, and where we are going. Thank you to everyone who came out.

Mobile Vision Care clinic
The Mobile Vision Care Clinic did not disappoint. A BIG thank you to Ms.Miller for organizing it and for everyone who helped get the forms in. Many students got their eyes tested and were able to order their glasses that same day! The Mobile Vision Care Clinic had many styles of frames to choose from.
Love My community day highlights
A special thank you to the Grade 7/8 class and Mrs.Boutang who helped organize Love My Community Day. Love My Community Day is about random acts of kindness, spreading joy, celebrating who we are, and connecting as a community. The day started with an Opening Ceremony Pow Wow in the RVS gym, which was organized by Caleb Atkinson. Some of the dances that were highlighted were Women's Fancy, Women's Jingle, Women's Traditional, Men's Traditional, Grass Dance, Prairie Chicken, and Men's Fancy. The dancers were Geraldine Antoine, Christie Atkinson, Jewel Roberts, Mackenzie Thomas, Nick Smith, and our very own Grade 7 student, Caleb Atkinson. The drummers and singers were Brad Boyd, Jan Antoine, Mike Fisher, Anthony Martin, Jon Atkinson, Bill Atkinson and our very own Grade 12 RVS student, Rayden Atkinson.

Fall Ball: An undergraduate awards night
We encourage all Grade 7-11 students from the 2022-23 school year to attend the Fall Ball on Wednesday, September 27th at 6pm. We will be honoring all of our students and welcome their families to join us in the RVS Gym. We will be having a dessert bar; so enjoy your supper at home and then join us for dessert. Looking for a morning out with the kids? Come and join Stay and Play at RVS. This will be our first session of the year and it will run every Wednesday until mid June. Please check in at the front office.
truth and Reconciliation Week
Learning and commemorating the truth of our history from First Nations, Métis, and Inuit knowledge keepers is an important part on the path of reconciliation. During Truth and Reconciliation Week 2023, Roseau Valley School will be participating in classroom activities throughout the week. On Friday, September 29th, we invite all students to wear an orange shirt.
